Ballad for a Tree
Ballad for a Tree (2003) is one of Massimo Bartolini’s most iconic works, which, as is often the case in his practice, has a strong performative dimension involving sound and music. A saxophonist approaches a tree and improvises a solo in an attempt to communicate with a non-human being, perhaps hoping that the tree will ask: “What strange bird is playing in front of me today?
On the occasion of Due qui / To Hear, Bartolini has conceived a new version of this work as an extensive travelling project in different regions of Italy. Selected saxophonists will play around various garden, rural and urban trees scattered in different Italian communities.
The project has been created in collaboration with WeStart Centro di Produzione Musica del Piemonte Orientale.
